A Nikah Safe Space for Every Couple
ARAYA

Nikah policy when there is no wali and no family present

When the bride has no wali in the religious order and no relative can attend — how we take the work, and on what conditions

Why this matters

In a nikah, the bride has a wali — a guardian who stands beside her and makes sure this marriage is really her own choice, not just a ceremony completed. Read who the wali is, and the order of precedence.

But no two lives are the same. Some brides have lost their father. Some became Muslim on their own while their family still does not understand. Some live far from home with no relative anywhere in Thailand. We do not treat that as your fault, and we do not close the door on you.

The one thing we will not let disappear is that someone knows about this wedding. A marriage nobody knows about is the route deception and trafficking actually use in Thailand, and women and children are hurt the most. That is why ARAYA is registered as a social enterprise — we do this work to protect people, not to sell a ceremony and move on.

So this page is not here to turn you away. It is here to say clearly that if you have no wali and no relative who can attend, we can still hold your wedding — and what it takes.

Short answer. We do take these weddings, and we can appoint a wali hakim, but only if the couple agrees to let us publish the nikah on the company’s public channels. You must also complete a request form, and the company’s shariah board reviews every case before we proceed.
At a glance
The one rule — every nikah has someone outside the couple who knows and can vouch for it, on the bride’s side, plus a record no single person can delete
The closer that person is, the more private the wedding — wali → two female relatives → the public
This route is open by nature — outsiders vouch in the family’s place
Agreeing to publish is not the whole thing — the form and the board’s review still apply

1 · The one rule we never lower

Every ARAYA nikah must have someone outside the couple who knows and can vouch for it, standing on the bride’s side (our main policy page calls this an “independent checker”). And it must leave a record that no single person can delete.

A wedding no one knows about is how deception and trafficking get in, and women and children are hurt the most. So we do not take that work, however good the reason sounds.

2 · The closer that person is to the bride, the more private the wedding

  • There is a wali in the religious order — the wedding can be fully private. The full order is in our main article on the wali.
  • No wali, but two female relatives of the bride attend and confirm — we appoint a wali hakim. The wedding stays private. You do not have to tell anyone.
  • No wali and no relatives at all — that is the case this page covers.

If you can still bring two female relatives, use that route first. It is more private.

3 · No wali and no relatives — what we do

Short answer: we let people outside the family, who can see the wedding, do the knowing and vouching instead.

The company will hold the wedding and appoint a wali hakim only if the couple agrees to let us publish the nikah on the company’s public channels, such as Facebook or Instagram.

This is not a punishment and not an exposure. Outsiders can only vouch for what they can see. If they are to do this in the family’s place, the wedding has to be visible.

And agreeing to publish is not the whole thing. You must complete a request form, and the company’s shariah board reviews every case before we proceed.

4 · Steps

  1. Contact the team to request the form. Do this before any consultation and before any deposit.
  2. Fill it in truthfully and send it back. The team may ask for more.
  3. The shariah board reviews it. Three outcomes: approved, approved with conditions, or not approved.
  4. If approved, we appoint the wali hakim and plan the wedding as usual.
  5. Every step is recorded, and no single person can delete it.

5 · Conditions — all of them

  1. Agree to have the nikah published on the company’s public channels. This is the heart of this route.
  2. Write out why there is no wali and no relative who can attend. Truthfully, in your own words.
  3. Confirm the identity and marital status of both parties, with the documents we tell you about after your booking is confirmed.
  4. Take the private Islamic pre-marriage course, as the board sets it for your case. The course comes with a certificate on completion. (This is separate from the compulsory course for anyone who has not yet become Muslim, which cannot be skipped anyway.)
  5. Separate interviews for the bride and the groom. The bride always confirms in her own voice. Family or a wali can support her, but cannot speak in her place.
  6. If you are Thai and choose the nikah service with no legal effect, you must sign an acknowledgement that a nikah alone is not a Thai marriage registration and does not give you the rights a registered couple has under Thai law.

6 · What we cannot accept

  • Either party is under age
  • Any sign of force, threat, deception, or trafficking
  • The bride is not in a state to decide for herself
  • False information in the form or in the interview
  • Wanting a nikah that no one knows about and that leaves no record

If we find any of these we stop — we refer and report as appropriate, and we protect the team member who raised it.

Why we are this strict: trafficking and dishonest marriage are real problems in Thailand. Read our social mission.

7 · Who decides

The company’s shariah board reviews and decides these requests, under the conditions on this page.

8 · Your information

We keep only what the review and the wedding need. The personal reasons you write in the form are not published. What is published is the wedding — its pictures and details.

The fact that this wedding was witnessed and open is a record no single person can delete. Full details are in our Privacy and Documentation Transparency Policy.

9 · If it is not approved

We tell you why, and we offer routes that actually work — for example, bringing two female relatives so you can go back to the private route, or using the Sakinah mediation service to reopen a conversation with the family. When your situation changes, you can apply again.
