In Islam, even the goodness or wrongdoing
of a human being is something no other human being can
and has no right to certify
In Islam, no human being can grant hell
or heaven to anyone at all
Nonetheless, Islam itself places importance on scholars
Those with greater knowledge of religious matters
naturally have a clearer understanding of various principles
in some matters that might otherwise remain unclear
But the problem is that scholars do not all know the same thing
Everyone says that their own scholar is correct
and accuses the other side’s scholar of being misguided
Everyone brings their own scholar
to stand in the middle, between goodness
compassion for one another, manners, and our shared humanity
We have many scholars, many different viewpoints
Many different institutions, even within Thailand
Each scholar’s knowledge is not the same as another’s
But we must not forget that there is no single scholarly view
that Allah SWT has certified
What can be done to invite everyone to take their own scholar
and place them alongside as an advisor on life and religion
and to speak to the human being standing before us
with goodness, with manners, with our shared humanity
Use scholars so that we ourselves gain peace and goodness
not to use scholars to judge one another
in a matter over which we never had authority to begin with
If we can do this, a society will arise
in which nothing remains but peace and goodness toward one another
